MAKING A DIFFERENCE
Our Escapes travel to areas of astounding natural beauty and visit inspiring local communities across Africa. It is essential that for every location that the impact on the local people and environment is carefully considered. We are able to ensure that our impact is positive by ensuring that we buy local (at a fair price), use locally run operators, and visit locally run social projects, such as the Joshua Orphan Care Centre which supports and feeds local orphans and vulnerable children. This unique opportunity gives visitors the chance to experience the real Malawi by meeting elders and community members and staying in the village.
Visitors also discover first hand the positive impact that the projects that we support are having in the area and the most recent infrastructure improvements that we have made. We hope this visit will open your eyes to some of the spectacular work that our volunteers are accomplishing and the long-term investment we make to our project sites.
The Personal Touch
QUEST always ensures that we use local contacts on all our expedition routes. We ensure that we stay at locally run guesthouses so that, as much as we possibly can, we are feeding money back into local businesses. The Escape route itself has been put together using local knowledge and information from our trusted project partners and contacts based out in Malawi. After all, we know that it is the people who actually live every day in Malawi and Zambia who know all the best spots!
Responsible Tourism
QUEST are always careful to travel with minimal impact on the environment and the local communities we come into contact with. We work, wherever possible, with locally owned and run organisations and ensure that all the companies we use are as ethically sound as we are. It is a priority in all our projects to work with local communities for the long term, something which you will appreciate when you see the work QUEST have completed and the welcome that you will receive from all the local people that you meet.
Travel
During the three weeks, we’ll be using a variety of transport from privately hired buses to speed boats. Rest assured that we take safety on our trips incredibly seriously and all transport you use will have been carefully checked by your Expedition Leader beforehand. We use reliable local contacts in Malawi who know and love the QUEST teams and who are always full of pride to show you around their beautiful country!
Malawi
Ask anyone who has travelled in Africa about Malawi and they’ll most likely quote what all the brochures say, that it is ‘the warm heart of Africa’. For once, this is a country where the hype is true. Malawi offers a stunning variation of landscapes and activities, but it is really the people that make its claim of being the most welcoming country in Africa.
Zambia
Zambia is home of the legendary African walking safari, of breath-taking lakes and wetlands, a profusion of birdlife, abundant wildlife and of raw, pulsating wilderness.
We see the Malawi & Zambia Escape as an opportunity for you to gain an insight into the Malawian communities that we work with on our projects. We include a 2 day visit to the Joshua Orphan Care Centre, where our volunteers work, so you can meet our contacts and spend time learning about a different culture. We also donate $50 per person to our project partners the Joshua Orphan Care Centre.
